- 1457. THOMAS TILGHMAN of (1456) is shown in the book "History of Kent," as being the owner of Beechworth Castle, in Surrey County, England, which he subsequently sold to John Cassock of Faversahm. This history speaks of Thomas tilghman as being the younger member of the Snodland branch of the family which would indicate that he had brothers and sisters. The History of Kent says that the coat of arms of the Sussex County, England, family is identifcal to that of the Snodland family's arms. There was one identified difference. The Sussex branch contained the motto of "Spes Alit Agricolam" (Hope Goes or Flies with the Farmer) on their arms. After Thomas Tilghman sold Beechworth Castle he settled in Sussex County. No record has been found of his marriage. There is one note that he had a son Nicholas. If there were other children, no record of them has been found.
